Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of society. Others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Educating a child to become a good member of a society is extremely challenging. While many people believe the responsibility lies on parents’ shoulder, another belief suggests school is the place for children to learn this from. This essay will provide insights to both perspective as well as my own.

In the early years, parents play a pivotal role in terms of developing a child personality and behavior. There are various skills which a child can learn from their parents, such as the most basic ones like the ability to speak, eat, walk. More importantly, parents are the first people who teach them about manners and how to treat other people around them. For example, in my country, children are taught different social custom or rules they must obey, for instance, using honorifics to show respect to older people, or expressing gratitude after receiving a favor from someone. Thus, parents should be the one who guide their children to take the first steps in life.

On the other hand, school is the place where children can learn a variety of skills in a societal level. The reason for this is that their classmates might come from different walks of life, hence not every relationship can be treated equally, which means children can familiarize themselves with various type of scenarios. These relationships with their counterparts can build some essential skills, such as working as a team or how to communicate effectively. Another point worth mentioning is that academic subjects not only provide children knowledge about the world, but also develop and strengthen their ability in problem-solving and critical thinking, which are crucial in children’ future career. Therefore, schooling is vital for any children.

To sum up, I strongly believe that children can reap benefits from both their parents and school in order to contribute to society in the future.
