Reading là một trong những chủ đề không quá thông dụng như Study hay Work nhưng cũng có tần suất xuất hiện trong IELTS tương đối nên cần chuẩn bị để nếu gặp gỡ nó bạn cũng không bị bối rối nha.

1. Do you like reading?

Các bạn nên bắt đầu câu trả lời của mình bằng một trạng từ như Definitely hoặc Absolutely và trả lời trực tiếp câu hỏi. Nhớ paraphrase câu hỏi nha :))

Ex: Yes, I'm definitely a bibliophile / book lover / bookworm

Tiếp theo bạn có thể triển khai ý bằng các lợi ích của việc đọc sách:

Do you like reading?

Sample 1 (Example + Advantage): I’m an avid reader. For instance, I always have a book in my bag just in case I have a few spare minutes. The primary draw for me is the sense of escapism; it’s like traveling to a different world without ever leaving my chair.

Sample 2 (Popularity + Time): I’ve always found reading to be aesthetically pleasing and mentally stimulating. It has remained a popular hobby of mine for a long time because it’s one of the few activities that truly makes me feel alert and inspired.

2. What was your favorite book as a child?

Ở câu hỏi này, chúng ta nên chọn ra một câu chuyện mình nhớ rõ và tóm tắt sơ câu chuyện. Nhớ dùng thì hiện tại, quá khứ cho phù hợp nha mọi người.

Ex: I remember falling in love with a book called “Alice in Wonderland”. I recall that it was the story of a little girl named Alice. Once she was following a rabbit and suddenly got lost in a magic world. She was initially apprehensive but finally determined to find the way home.

Ở câu này có sao nói vậy, nhớ chèn thêm vài từ hay hay vào cho giám khảo vui nha mọi người.

Ex 1: At the moment, I’m getting bogged down with work! so I can’t manage decent time for reading books related to my major field of study, but in the past during my university years, I had to say I was a bookworm, and purchased books every week to enhance my expertise.

Ex 2: Currently, I’m enrolling in a finance course at university. And of course, the lecture requires the participants to do a lot of research and reading to enhance knowledge about business as well as finance.

4. Do you think it's important that children read regularly?

Ex: Absolutely, reading comes with knowledge and that is the key to open all education’s doors for children. That’s why parents should encourage their kids to read frequently. However, it would be a mistake to make it compulsory.

5. Which do you prefer, reading books or watching movies?

Sample 1 (Advantage + Example): I’m much more partial to reading. The primary benefit is that it allows for a deeper level of intellectual engagement. For instance, when reading a mystery novel, I can dive into the protagonist's inner thoughts, which often get lost in a fast-paced movie.

Sample 2 (Popularity + Time): While watching movies is immensely popular for quick entertainment, I prefer to spend my leisure time with a book. I find that reading is more therapeutic and helps me unwind after a long day much better than staring at a flickering screen.

6. Have you ever read a novel that has been adapted into a film?

Sample 1 (Example + Advantage): Yes, I read "The Great Gatsby" before seeing the movie. Specifically, I found the book's prose to be much more evocative. The major draw of reading the source material first is that you can build a vivid mental picture of the world before a director imposes their vision on you.

7. Are your reading habits now different than before?

9. Do you read more or less now than when you were younger?

Sample 1 (Advantage + Example): I actually read more now. The benefit of being an adult is having more discernment regarding what I enjoy. To give you an example, I used to only read what was assigned in school, but now I explore diverse genres like philosophy and biographies.

11. When do you need to read carefully, and when not?

Sample 1 (Example + Advantage): I read with meticulous attention when dealing with legal documents or technical manuals. The advantage of this detailed reading is that it prevents costly mistakes. On the other hand, I tend to skim through news headlines just to stay informed.

12. Do you prefer scanning or detailed reading?

Sample 1 (Advantage + Example): It depends on the objective. If I’m looking for a specific fact, scanning is a huge time-saver. For instance, I scan restaurant menus to find vegetarian options. But for a novel, I prefer in-depth reading to appreciate the author's style.

Sample 2 (Popularity + Time): Detailed reading is my preference for self-improvement books. While scanning is popular for surviving the "information age," I find that spending time on the details leads to better knowledge retention.

13. What books do you like to read?

14. What book did you read recently?

Sample 1 (Example + Advantage): I recently finished "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. Specifically, it breaks down how small changes lead to remarkable results. The primary advantage of this book is its practical advice on building discipline and breaking bad routines.

Sample 2 (Time + Cost): I spent about a week reading a historical thriller. Although the hardback edition was a bit costly, the gripping plot and intricate details made it a very rewarding way to spend my evening time.

14. What did you learn from it?
