1. What type of clothes do you enjoy wearing?

Band 6.0+ (Technique: Example): I prefer comfortable and casual clothes like T-shirts, jeans, and sneakers. I think they are easy to wear and suitable for everyday activities. However, when I go to special events, I like to wear something more formal, like a dress or a suit.

Band 8.0+ (Technique: Advantage): Well, actually, this is kind of a challenging question for me, because I do not attach myself to any particular style. I would say I’m quite an unpredictable individual. So, my approach to fashion is pretty much mix-and -match. I would always like to try new combinations and have fun with it and see how it goes. But at the moment I would say I’m very obsessed with trench coats. I think they are very versatile with different patterns and silhouettes.

Band 8.0+: Definitely, I do think there has been a drastic evolution in my styles of clothing. A decade ago, I was practically a secondary student, and I don’t think my sense of identity in fashion had ever begun to develop at that time. Most of my shirts or pants were actually what my mom bought for me, which I was okay with. And obviously, by now, I have matured and my style has become much more refined with a lot of attention to detail, silhouettes and more finesses in general. And I’m very proud of that change.

Band 8.0+: That depends on people’s age. For the elderly or the middle-aged demographics in Hanoi, I would say their clothing is quite casual and very suitable for the weather. Hanoi’s weather is very erratic so it’s completely understandable why people would choose to prioritize function. On the other hand, the youngster, it’s more about aesthetics than practicality. These days, the youth have an urge to express themselves, and appearance would is such a great way for them to do so. These days, for people of my age, you can see their clothes tend to have a very bold designs, lots of colours, different silhouettes. Overall, it’s just more diverse. So I do think that’s the main difference.

(Introduction) I don’t really want toot my own horn but I really have a great sense of style, so I always, under any circumstances, dress up and look my best.

(Story) However, there was one specific time when I wore my most gorgeous outfit and it was indeed my graduation ceremony that took place around 6 years ago. Undoubtedly, it was an important milestone in my life, one that marked the day I entered the labour force, left my comfort zone at uni with careful protection from parents and finally, I could have a full-time job to make ends meet. That’s why I was gonna wear my best clothes to look the part. On top of that, we would have to take thousands of pictures that could last forever so I really wanted to look like a million dollars.

After careful consideration, I decided to choose a tight-fitting dress which was made-to-measure professional tailors. The pastel pink colour of it really complimented my complexion as it made me look less pale and much younger. Even though it was a skin-tight gown with a high cut on one side, it was comfy and convenient to wear thanks to the softness of the silk material.

(Opinion) Additionally, this fabric made it look very stylish, and luxurious with a chic vibe at the same time. The amazing design helped to elongate my body and as expected, I stood out in the picture of the whole class thanks to the dress. The gown fit like a glove and everything was on point, well, except for my makeup after it melted in the baking weather of summer.

1. Do you think people need to wear formal clothing in the workplace?

It actually depends on the occupation as well as the events we attend at work. Let’s say people who work for some prestigious universities or educational institutions, in general, may need to wear formal attire so they can set a good example, you know, be a role model for their students and also convey the impression that they are conscious of the roles they have in educating youngsters. However, anyone working in any field in technology or art and design don’t have to wear uniform or suit and tie or some long dresses with blouses because they may opt for comfort to have more creative ideas to boost their productivity. More importantly, all employees should really pay attention to their outfits when participating in any events at work. I mean, if they attend a meeting with the C-suite of the organization, it’s a must for them to dress formally, but it’s completely fine to put on casual clothes like T-shirts and jeans on a daily basis, when they just sit in front of the screen to work and maybe have some chit-chat with their colleagues.

2. Why do some people like to wear traditional clothes?

I could never tell the reasons why some people are interested in wearing those traditional costumes until recently, when ao dai – the traditional vietnamese dresses and horse face skirts – chinese dresses are all the rage. These trends might result from our wishes to preserve the long-standing tradition and culture of our country. You know, these clothing items can represent the cultural heritage, identity and uniqueness of a country and hence, when putting on traditional attire, we can have a deeper and more intimate connection to our ancestors, which means that we could never forget our roots. Also, many trendsetters or fashionistas may like to wear these garments for their aesthetic appeal and the fact that they can complement their body shapes and make them look more attractive. For example, Vietnamese traditional dresses or Cheongsam in China with their fancy costly silk material can accentuate the slimness of the waist and any curves on the wearers.

Without any doubt, the answer would be no. As a matter of fact, almost all countries have made their effort to preserve their cultural values, which for sure include traditional garments by encouraging their citizens to wear those items during national holidays or other special events, uploading and promoting the images of people in traditional clothes on social network like tik tok, facebook or instagram. On top of that, I think clothing with long-standing cultural values may also be revived to fit into modern life when many fashion designers have tried to incorporate some patterns, design, fabrics or unique colours of traditional clothes into our common items to create some very interesting combination that also helps to protect conventional values. That’s how we have the trend to wear Ao dai with different necklines or prints, and that’s how ao dai is going to live forever in Vietnamese culture.

To be more specific, when people get older, as their metabolism may not work as effectively as it used to, the elderly may have more fat on their backs, thighs or waist, meaning that it can be uncomfortable to put on skin-tight outfits. Besides, many people at the age of over 60 usually wear something their friends in, let’s say a retirement home, usually wear to have a sense of belonging. In this case, they can feel so isolated if they have some colour block dress on while others are wearing loose-fitting clothing in neutral colours.
