Sample Answer Hobbies

Speaking Part 1

Do you have any hobbies?

Definitely, yes. One of my pastimes is taking photographs. I find it fascinating to capture beautiful moments and scenes through photography. I also enjoy doing volunteer work when I have the opportunity. It's a meaningful way to give back to the community.

How do you usually spend your weekends?

On weekends, I like to mix things up. Sometimes, I prefer to hit the gym to stay active and healthy. Other times, I'll just idle away the hours by reading a good book or watching a movie in front of the box. It's a nice balance of relaxation and physical activity.

Do you prefer to spend your free time alone or with other people?

I appreciate both spending time alone and with other people. It really depends on my mood and the situation. When I need some 'me time,' I enjoy activities like cooking or doing yoga alone. However, I also find socializing with friends appealing, and it's a great way to create meaningful connections.

What free-time activities would you like to try in the future?

In the years to come, I will give a try to some more adventurous activities during my free time. One activity I've always been curious about is hiking in the mountains because it seems like an adventurous and therapeutic way to connect with nature. Additionally, I'd love to learn to play a musical instrument, like the guitar, as I believe it would be both enjoyable and meaningful.

Speaking Part 2

Describe a person you know who loves to grow plants

You should say:

Who this person is

What he/she grows

Where he/she grows them

And explain why he/she enjoys growing plants

Answer

I’m going to talk about a person who is truly passionate about growing plants, and that is my neighbor, Sarah. She has turned her backyard into a beautiful space of greenery and flowers.

Sarah grows a wide variety of plants, including colorful flowers, aromatic herbs, and even some vegetables. Her garden is a delightful mix of roses, tulips, lavender, basil, mint, and tomatoes. It's truly impressive how she manages to cultivate such a diverse range of plants.

She devotes most of her gardening efforts in her backyard, where she has created well-organized flower beds and herb gardens. Sarah also has a small greenhouse where she nurtures some delicate plants and starts her seedlings. The backyard is filled with pots and hanging baskets, each carefully arranged to maximize aesthetics and functionality.

Sarah finds immense joy in growing plants for several reasons. First and foremost, she considers gardening to be therapeutic. It helps her relax and blows stress away after a busy day. Moreover, Sarah derives a sense of accomplishment from gardening. Watching her plants thrive and bloom brings her a profound sense of satisfaction. Furthermore, she enjoys the beauty and fragrance that her garden adds to her home. It has become a haven for local birds and butterflies, making her backyard a peaceful retreat where she can observe nature up close.

For me, her garden is not just a collection of plants, it's a place for her dedication and love for the art of gardening.

Speaking Part 3

Do you think people's choice of hobbies is influenced by their age? Why or why not?

Of course, in my opinion, age can have a substantial impact on the types of hobbies people are inclined to choose. For instance, younger individuals often have more energy and may prefer physically demanding hobbies like hitting the gym or engaging in adventurous activities. On the other hand, older individuals might opt for more tranquil hobbies such as gardening or reading, as they appreciate the relaxation and intellectual stimulation these activities provide.

How have hobbies and interests changed over the years with the influence of technology?

Hobbies and interests have undergone significant transformations due to the influence of technology. Traditional hobbies, like reading physical books, have transitioned to e-books, and hobbies such as photography have become more accessible with smartphones and digital cameras. The rise of the internet has introduced entirely new hobbies like blogging, content creation, and online gaming, fostering global communities of enthusiasts. However, technology has also led to concerns about screen addiction, where people spend excessive time on their devices, impacting hobbies that require physical activity or social interaction.

Is it harmful to spend too much time on a hobby?

Spending an excessive amount of time on a hobby can have detrimental consequences. For instance, if someone idles away too many hours to play video games, they might neglect their work or studies, which can lead to academic or professional issues. Additionally, in the context of social hobbies like socializing with friends, spending too much time on one hobby can result in social isolation, and it will hinder the development of meaningful relationships. Moreover, certain hobbies like extreme sports can pose physical risks and even injuries if pursued without moderation.
