* Sample Answer

When it comes to someone who is exceptionally good at planning, the first person who springs to mind is my colleague, Linh. She is a true master of organization and, honestly, she makes the rest of us look a bit disorganized.

We’ve been working together in the same department for over three years. Since our first project, I’ve been in awe of her ability to manage everything down to the smallest detail. Linh plans for everything; whether it’s a high-stakes project deadline or something as simple as a team lunch, she always has a detailed roadmap. She doesn’t just make a to-do list; she maps out potential risks and has a "Plan B" ready for every scenario. Outside of work, she is just as disciplined, keeping a strictly structured schedule for her personal finance, travel plans, and fitness goals.

I genuinely admire her for a few reasons. Firstly, she has an incredible ability to stay ahead of the curve, anticipating problems before they even arise. This makes working with her incredibly smooth and stress-free. Watching her manage her life so effectively has really inspired me to sharpen my own organizational skills. She is a constant reminder that with the right planning, we can achieve more with less chaos. I feel truly fortunate to have her as a partner in my professional life because she brings a sense of order to everything she touches.

The Solution: * Instead of panicking, she called an emergency meeting to re-prioritize tasks.

Applied the "divide and conquer" strategy: redistributed tasks based on individual strengths and used project management tools for close tracking.

Why it was smart:

  • Her composure helped stabilize the team's morale.
  • Strengths-based delegation increased efficiency while reducing individual pressure.
Opinion

Conclusion: Linh proves that adaptability and calmness are key to overcoming the most challenging situations.

* Sample Answer

When it comes to someone who is an expert at navigating difficult situations, my colleague, Linh, immediately springs to mind. She has this incredible ability to keep her cool and find a brilliant solution even when the pressure is mounting.

A memorable example was a few months ago when our team was working on a high-stakes project. We were nearing the deadline when one of our key team members had to take an emergency leave, leaving us with a massive workload and very little time. While the rest of us were honestly starting to panic, Linh stepped up. She didn't just rush to finish the work; she called an urgent meeting to reassess our priorities. She utilized a "divide and conquer" approach, reallocating tasks based on each person's unique strengths and utilizing project management software to keep our progress transparent and efficient.

I believe she handled this in an incredibly smart way for a couple of reasons. First, her calmness acted as an anchor for the team, keeping us focused instead of spiraling into stress. Furthermore, her decision to play to our strengths meant that we weren't just working harder, we were working smarter. By reorganizing the workflow, she turned a potential disaster into a manageable process. Watching her work taught me that intelligence in problem-solving isn't just about technical skill, but about the ability to think on one’s feet and lead with composure. I truly admire her for turning such a chaotic situation into a success story.

This makes me think of Mr. Tony, a former university teacher of mine. I think all of my classmates would agree with me that he was the one who was the embodiment of positivity any time he entered our class. I will tell you more about such an adorable teacher now.

As I was saying, I first met him when I was a junior in college, and he taught us public speaking, research methodology, which was, you know, presumably a deadly dry and abstract subject. However, Mr. Tony always started his lesson with fun and relatable anecdotes and a smiley face that really attracted the whole class. His positive energy unveiled in his charming voice was so engaging that we all found it easier to start working on the theories and I felt more willing to voice my opinion on any questions that he posed

At the very first time when I attended his class, I was hooked instantly by his style as well, he dressed really smartly and looked pretty stylish in his denim jacket. Even though he was about 10 years older than us, he looked youthful and active. Actually, he left a lasting impression on me, and I’ve always seen him as a role model for me since then. His image as an energetic teacher inspired me a lot, which keeps me working hard every day to become a teacher like him.

At the end of the day, I definitely adore Mr. Tony, a positive and dedicated teacher, who is always full of beans and motivates us to work for the future.

embodiment /ɪmˈbɒdimənt/ n biểu tượng/ hiện thân

Introduction

The person I’d like to describe is an English teacher I met at a conference a few years ago. She had a lot of experience in language teaching, and through our exchanges, it became very clear that she held some very strong views on teaching methods.

I sat next to her during the conference, and afterwards, I had a brief conversation with her. She was extremely passionate about her approach to teaching, and it was clear that she believed in it wholeheartedly. She explained her ideas in a very confident, almost uncompromising way.

I believe that she has strong opinions because she insisted that her method was the most effective way to teach, no matter the students’ individual needs. She was very adamant that every lesson should follow a fixed structure, which she believed would ensure the best results. She didn’t seem open to alternative methods and was quite dismissive of flexibility or learner-centered approaches.

Her main belief was that teaching should always be highly structured with a focus on grammar and following a set lesson plan. She didn’t agree with approaches that adapt to the needs of individual learners or prioritize communication over structure. This rigid perspective made it clear that she valued consistency over adaptability.

While I respect her experience and dedication, I strongly disagree with her view. I believe that each student has different needs, and there is no one-size-fit-all method. Her opinions, though strong, made me more certain that teaching should be flexible and personalized.

Speaking Part 3 question & answer

Good Planner

1. Should children ask their teachers and parents for advice when making plans?

A Yes, guidance from experienced adults is invaluable.
R Children lack real-world perspective and foresight.
E A parent can help a child weigh the pros and cons of choosing a specific extracurricular activity.
C This mentorship helps them avoid common pitfalls and make more informed decisions.

I strongly believe that children should actively seek advice from parents and teachers when formulating plans. The primary reason is that young people often lack the real-world perspective and foresight necessary to anticipate potential challenges. For instance, when a child is deciding which extracurricular club to join, a parent can offer invaluable insights into how that commitment might impact their academic performance. Ultimately, this mentorship not only helps children avoid common pitfalls but also equips them with the critical thinking skills needed to make more informed decisions independently.

foresight /ˈfɔːsaɪt/ n tầm nhìn xa/sự lo xa

A Significant undertakings like education, finances, and travel.
R Proper preparation ensures efficiency and minimizes stress.
E Preparing for a professional career or a major international holiday.
C Planning reduces the likelihood of last-minute complications and ensures better outcomes.

We generally need to plan ahead for any activity that carries high stakes or requires significant resources, such as long-term education, personal finance, or complex travel arrangements. Proper preparation is essential because it ensures operational efficiency and significantly minimizes stress. For example, when organizing an international trip, booking flights and accommodation in advance is vital to avoid inflated costs. Ultimately, meticulous planning reduces the likelihood of last-minute complications and ensures that we achieve our objectives with a much higher degree of success.

inflated costs /ɪnˈfleɪtɪd kɒsts/ n phr chi phí bị đội lên
meticulous planning /mɪˈtɪkjʊləs ˈplænɪŋ/ n phr lập kế hoạch tỉ mỉ

3. Do you think choosing a college major is closely related to a person's future career?

A Yes, there is a strong correlation, though it is not absolute.
R A major provides the foundational knowledge and technical skills for specific fields.
E An engineering student is likely to pursue roles in construction or technology.
C While career paths can be fluid, an academic background often serves as a key gateway to professional opportunities.

I believe there is a strong correlation between one's college major and their future career, although it is not an absolute rule. Academic programs are designed to provide the foundational knowledge and specialized technical skills required to excel in specific industries. For example, a student pursuing a major in engineering is naturally positioned to enter roles in construction or software development. While modern career paths are becoming increasingly fluid, a relevant academic background still serves as a key gateway to professional opportunities and networking within a desired field.

correlation /ˌkɒrəˈleɪʃn/ n sự tương quan

A Yes, it is becoming increasingly common, especially among ambitious students.
R The competitive nature of modern education necessitates structured time management.
E Many students use digital tools or apps to track their learning progress.
C This habit enhances productivity and helps them maintain a healthy balance between study and rest.

Making study plans is definitely becoming more popular, particularly among ambitious students who aim for academic excellence. The highly competitive nature of modern education necessitates a structured approach to time management. Nowadays, many students leverage sophisticated digital tools and applications to meticulously track their learning progress and manage deadlines. This habit not only significantly enhances their daily productivity but also ensures they can maintain a healthy, sustainable balance between their academic responsibilities and personal leisure time.

5. Do you think children should plan their future careers?

A They should explore interests, but not commit to rigid career paths too early.
R Children change their minds frequently as they mature.
E A child might express interest in medicine at age ten but choose art later.
C Over-planning can lead to unnecessary pressure and inhibit their self-discovery.

While it is beneficial for children to dream, I do not believe they should be forced to commit to a rigid career path at a young age. Children’s interests are naturally dynamic and tend to evolve significantly as they mature and gain new experiences. For example, a child might dream of becoming a surgeon at ten, but eventually find their true calling in graphic design by their late teens. Therefore, instead of rigid planning, it is better to encourage broad exploration, as over-planning can create unnecessary pressure and potentially stifle their natural journey of self-discovery.

rigid career path /ˈrɪdʒɪd kəˈrɪə pɑːθ/ n phr con đường sự nghiệp cứng nhắc
dynamic /daɪˈnæmɪk/ adj năng động/thay đổi liên tục
true calling /truː ˈkɔːlɪŋ/ n phr cái nghiệp/đam mê thực sự
stifle /ˈstaɪfl/ v ngăn cản/bóp nghẹt

A Absolutely, it is a crucial skill for personal and professional success.
R Planning transforms abstract goals into actionable steps.
E Proactive planning allows us to anticipate obstacles and prepare contingency measures.
C It provides a sense of direction and significantly boosts our confidence in tackling challenges.

In my view, planning ahead is an indispensable skill for achieving both personal and professional success. The core value of planning lies in its ability to transform abstract aspirations into manageable, actionable steps. For instance, when we plan ahead, we can proactively anticipate potential obstacles and develop contingency measures to address them before they escalate. Ultimately, having a clear roadmap provides a strong sense of direction and significantly boosts our self-confidence when it comes to tackling complex challenges in our daily lives.

indispensable /ˌɪndɪˈspensəbl/ adj không thể thiếu
abstract aspirations /ˈæbstrækt ˌæspəˈreɪʃnz/ n phr những khát vọng trừu tượng

Smart Problem-Solving

1. What do you think about the future of electric cars?

A They will undoubtedly become the dominant mode of personal transport.
R Global efforts to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions are accelerating their adoption.
E Major automobile manufacturers are phasing out internal combustion engines in favor of electric drivetrains.
C This shift will significantly improve air quality in densely populated urban centers.

I am convinced that electric vehicles represent the future of personal transportation. As nations globally intensify their efforts to mitigate climate change, the transition away from fossil-fuel-dependent vehicles is becoming inevitable. Major car manufacturers are already phasing out internal combustion engines, investing heavily instead in more sustainable electric drivetrains. Ultimately, the widespread adoption of electric cars will not only revolutionize our commuting habits but will also contribute significantly to reducing urban air pollution and lowering our collective carbon footprint.

carbon footprint /ˌkɑːbən ˈfʊtprɪnt/ n phr dấu chân carbon (lượng khí thải nhà kính)

internal combustion engines /ɪnˈtɜːnl kəmˈbʌstʃən ˈendʒɪnz/ n phr động cơ đốt trong
drivetrains /ˈdraɪvtreɪnz/ n hệ thống truyền động

2. Why do more people own and drive private cars now?

A Increased affordability and the desire for personal convenience.
R Owning a car provides autonomy, comfort, and flexibility that public transport lacks.
E People prefer driving their own car to avoid the unpredictability and crowding of buses or trains.
C This trend leads to higher rates of urban congestion and infrastructure strain.

The rise in private car ownership is primarily driven by improved affordability and a deep-seated human desire for convenience. Unlike public transport, which is often limited by fixed routes and schedules, owning a car provides unparalleled autonomy and comfort for the individual. Many people prefer the privacy and ease of their own vehicle, especially when they need to bypass the frustrations of crowded buses or unpredictable train schedules. However, this shift inevitably exacerbates urban congestion, placing immense strain on city infrastructure and complicating daily traffic management.

affordability /əˌfɔːdəˈbɪləti/ n khả năng chi trả/giá cả phải chăng
autonomy /ɔːˈtɒnəmi/ n sự tự chủ/độc lập
bypass /ˈbaɪpɑːs/ v vượt qua/tránh được
exacerbate /ɪɡˈzæsəbeɪt/ v làm trầm trọng thêm

3. How are the transportation systems in urban and rural areas different?

A Urban systems are highly interconnected, while rural systems are sparse and rely on private vehicles.
R High population density in cities justifies expansive public infrastructure.
E Cities have subways, buses, and ride-sharing; rural areas often have limited road links and infrequent services.
C This discrepancy creates a significant gap in accessibility and economic mobility.

Transportation systems vary drastically depending on population density; urban areas typically feature highly interconnected networks like subways, buses, and bike-sharing schemes. In contrast, rural infrastructure is often far more limited, relying heavily on private vehicles due to sparse road links and infrequent transit services. This creates a clear accessibility divide; while city dwellers enjoy seamless connectivity, those in remote regions may face significant challenges in accessing essential services. This discrepancy often impacts their overall economic mobility and limits their day-to-day choices.

interconnected networks /ˌɪntəkəˈnektɪd ˈnetwɜːks/ n phr mạng lưới liên kết
sparse /spɑːs/ adj thưa thớt
accessibility divide /əkˌsesəˈbɪləti dɪˈvaɪd/ n phr sự chênh lệch về khả năng tiếp cận
economic mobility /ˌiːkəˈnɒmɪk məʊˈbɪləti/ n phr khả năng thay đổi vị thế kinh tế/di chuyển vì mục đích kinh tế

4. Do you think people need to change their way of transportation to protect the environment?

A Absolutely, a radical shift toward sustainable transport is critical.
R Traditional vehicles are a major source of pollutants that harm the ecosystem.
E Opting for public transport, cycling, or walking instead of private cars for short trips.
C Such individual changes, when aggregated, lead to massive reductions in harmful emissions.

A fundamental shift in our commuting habits is essential to mitigate environmental degradation. Since traditional, fuel-powered vehicles remain a primary source of harmful pollutants, transitioning toward sustainable options—such as cycling, walking, or utilizing public transport—is a vital step. Even small, individual choices to forgo a private car for short trips can, when aggregated globally, lead to a substantial reduction in emissions. Ultimately, protecting our ecosystem requires both structural government support and a personal commitment to adopting eco-conscious travel.

eco-conscious travel /ˈiːkəʊ ˈkɒnʃəs ˈtrævl/ n phr việc đi lại có ý thức bảo vệ môi trường

5. Do you think air pollution comes mostly from mobile vehicles?

A

They are a major contributor, but not the only one.

R

Industrial activities and energy production also emit significant pollutants.

E

Factory chimneys, power plants, and waste burning contribute heavily to poor air quality.

C

Addressing pollution requires a comprehensive strategy targeting both transport and industry.

While it is undeniable that mobile vehicles are a significant source of air pollution, they are certainly not the sole culprit. Industrial manufacturing, power plants, and agricultural waste burning also release vast amounts of particulate matter into the atmosphere. Therefore, attributing poor air quality solely to traffic is a misconception. To effectively address pollution, we require a comprehensive strategy that simultaneously tackles vehicular emissions while strictly regulating industrial output and transitioning to cleaner energy sources.

culprit /ˈkʌlprɪt/ n thủ phạm
particulate matter /pəˈtɪkjʊlət ˈmætə(r)/ n phr bụi mịn/vật chất dạng hạt
misconception /ˌmɪskənˈsepʃn/ n hiểu lầm
comprehensive strategy /ˌkɒmprɪˈhensɪv ˈstrætədʒi/ n phr chiến lược toàn diện

6. Which form of vehicle is more popular in your country: bikes, cars, or motorcycles?

A Motorcycles are by far the most dominant form of transport in Vietnam.
R They offer the perfect balance between cost, speed, and maneuverability in dense traffic.
E Navigating narrow alleyways and congested city streets is far easier on a motorcycle than a car.
C This popularity, however, continues to pose challenges for traffic safety and urban pollution management.

In Vietnam, motorcycles remain the most ubiquitous mode of transport due to their unmatched convenience and affordability. They provide the perfect balance between speed and maneuverability, which is absolutely essential when navigating our famously dense and congested city streets. Unlike cars, motorcycles can easily thread through narrow alleyways and heavy traffic, making them the most practical choice for daily commuters. However, this reliance on motorbikes also presents ongoing challenges for local authorities regarding traffic safety and the management of urban air quality.

ubiquitous /juːˈbɪkwɪtəs/ adj phổ biến khắp mọi nơi
maneuverability /məˌnuːvərəˈbɪləti/ n khả năng cơ động
thread through /θred θruː/ v phr len lỏi qua
commuters /kəˈmjuːtəz/ n người đi làm/người di chuyển hàng ngày

Energetic person

1. Do you think machines could replace human workers in the future?

A Machines will replace some jobs but not all.
R They excel in repetitive and manual tasks.
E Factory workers and delivery jobs may be automated.
C Humans will focus on complex and strategic tasks.

I do believe that technological advances, including cutting-edge machinery will leave an enormous impact and therefore provide crucial assistance in human’s work. That’s why I believe some entry-level jobs such as factory workers or delivery men will soon be replaced by machines or delivery robots. These AI-assisted tools will be more productive and reliable in these manual and repetitive tasks given their high precision and endurance. However, when it comes to more demanding jobs that require higher levels of expertise and sophistication, high-tech devices can only be used to contribute to some parts of the process, while humans can focus more on the more complicated and strategic tasks.

2. Can physical workers receive higher salaries in the future?

A Skilled physical workers may earn higher salaries.
R Advanced machines require specialized operation.
E Managing robots or operating high-tech machines.
C Workers with expertise will receive better pay.

As I was saying, the availability of manual work may be affected by the wider utilization of cutting-edge machines, but I reckon that there will be chances for those who aspire to enhance their skills and become more specialized in the field. That’s what can drive up their wages. For example, jobs such as managing robots or operating advanced machines will surely require the workers to gain more in-depth knowledge to ensure that they can handle their work well, and they deserve better compensation for their efforts and contribution.

manual work /ˈmænjuəl wɜːk/ n phr công việc tay chân (physical work)
utilization /ˌjuːtəlaɪˈzeɪʃn/ n ứng dụng, sự sử dụng
cutting-edge /ˌkʌtɪŋ ˈedʒ/ adj hiện đại
aspire to /əˈspaɪə tə/ v phr mong muốn làm được điều gì
compensation /ˌkɒmpenˈseɪʃn/ n thù lao

3. What’s the difference between the payment for physical work and that for mental work?

A Mental work often pays more than physical work.
R It requires higher education and training.
E Professionals like doctors or engineers earn well.
C However, high-risk jobs can also offer competitive pay

In many cases, jobs involving mental efforts are more likely to require people to have higher levels of education. This can also translate into higher salaries, since employees are supposed to invest more in their formal training, both time and effort, in order to be eligible for the job. That said, some specific jobs that are high-risk or associated with high craftsmanship offer really competitive pay. These include construction, aviation or underground mining, to name but a few. People working in such dangerous situation should deserve higher rem.

translate into /trænzˈleɪt ˈɪntuː/ v dẫn đến, chuyển hóa thành
eligible /ˈelɪdʒəbl/ adj đủ điều kiện, đủ tư cách
craftsmanship /ˈkrɑːftsmənʃɪp/ n tay nghề kỹ nghệ, sự khéo léo
competitive /kəmˈpetətɪv/ adj cạnh tranh (mức lương cao, hấp dẫn)
remuneration /rɪˌmjuːnəˈreɪʃn/ n tiền thù lao, tiền công

4. What kinds of jobs need a lot of physical work?

A Jobs in construction and agriculture need heavy physical work.
R They involve strenuous tasks and endurance.
E Laborers, carpenters, and farm workers.
C Workers must stay strong and physically active.

There are quite a few jobs that require a significant amount of physical effort. For example, positions in construction, such as laborers, carpenters, and bricklayers, often involve strenuous tasks like lifting heavy objects, using various tools, and maintaining physical endurance throughout the workday. C Balance with openness is key.
