So today I would like to tell about the book that I have read recently, whose name is “Take care of mom”, a mini-novel by a Korean writer. As an admirer of novel, I cherish the value that is brought by this book for several reasons.
“Take care of mom” is a worth-reading book for some reasons. It describes a series of touching stories between the writer and his mother. Throughout the book, the author tells about the trip of coming back to her hometown to visit mom. On the train home, the scenery of the Korean countryside is described like a picture with traditional houses of this country and the image of the author’s mom emerges. Many stories were told but the most evident thing is mom’s sacrifice to support the whole family and her wishes and expectations for her only daughter to become a teacher.
Besides, many childhood memories of the writer are also told in the book, which remind us of the good old days that we all experienced when we were young. The book is a peaceful picture and a combination of memories, journeys, and even regret and sorrow.
Thanks to this book, I have realized some important things about family, which are motherhood, family bonding and the affection that members give each other. The book cheers me up a lot whenever I read it, it gives me a lot of motivation to try my best so as to make my mom happy and proud of me.

Sample:
I’ve chosen The Golden Compass, the first book in a fantasy trilogy written by Philip Pullman. It’s a piece of literature that covers a multitude of fantastical elements, from magic to religion to creatures of myth.
It’s a very complex book that at first glance could seem like a children’s book with your standard save the innocent from the big great evil, which is what originally drew my attention to it, but there are levels to this story and its development that more mature readers are able to pick up. I found particularly interesting parallels drawn between the dogma of this world and our own and that was very appealing to me as I have always been a student of religions around the world. It made me reflect on my personal beliefs and the history of the Catholic church mainly. The author’s storytelling was captivating and weaved a world with his words that seemed driven by a simple enough reason, save people, but ends up making the characters question religion, the powers that be and the morality of the greater good.
I loved this book as it kept me on my toes at every turn and it used real-life counterparts for places on our world, which made it more appealing by adding to the sensation of reality within fantasy. That was so strong that when I visited England, I took the chance to visit several of the locations described in the book.

(Introduction) Well, I consider myself as a bookworm and I’ve read so many book already. But my most perennial favorite is Harry Potter. The book is penned by J.K.Rowling, who is an international acclaimed author, and she’s most known for her unique narrative style, which is nothing short of sublime. And you know what? Her most globally renowned favorite work of art is absolutely Harry Potter.
(Story) Basically, the plot revolves around the life of Harry Potter, who is a very brave witch ( because I don’t want to bore you with the nitty-gritty) He successfully garnered all of the 7 Horcruxes and totally beat the dark world. Although he encountered a host of setbacks, he still managed to overcome them.
(Opinion) Why am I so in love with this character? I mean, obviously he possessed a lot of good virtues. He’s such a resilient man. He never gives up. He always weathers all the difficulties that come his way. And in addition, he’s courageous enough to sacrifice himself for the sake of others. And I was so lucky to be immersed in the magic world when I visited the Hogwarts school in London. That’s just a wonderful trip for me and I wish that in the future I could embark on that trip again

IELTS Speaking part 3 topic Book
Và chúng ta chuyển sang Part 3 với một số câu hỏi như sau.
E-books or printed books
1. How does technology help people tell stories?
- A (Answer): Technology makes storytelling more vivid and engaging.
- R (Reason): It enhances stories with visuals and audio.
- E (Example): Illustrated texts, voiceovers, and animated videos.
- C (Consequence): Readers can enjoy more immersive storytelling experiences.
What springs to my mind right now is how technology helps with illustrating the stories. I guess as stories are often written pieces, then technology would play the magical role of weaving more life to them. You know, just with the presence of a demonstrative picture alongside the text, readers can take that as, like, a spice for their imagination. Let alone when there is some kind of voicing over where a story is read aloud and therefore, story lovers can listen to them in the form of a video with vivid animations and all that. Nothing would do better, I guess!
| illustrate stories | /ˈɪləstreɪt ˈstɔːriz/ | v phr | minh họa cho câu chuyện, làm câu chuyện trở nên dễ hình dung hơn |
| weave more life into something | /wiːv mɔː laɪf ˈɪntuː ˈsʌmθɪŋ/ | v phr | thổi thêm sức sống vào một điều gì đó |
| demonstrative picture | /ˈdemənstrətɪv ˈpɪktʃə(r)/ | n phr | hình ảnh minh họa giúp làm rõ nội dung |
| vivid animations | /ˈvɪvɪd ˌænɪˈmeɪʃnz/ | n phr | hình ảnh động sống động |
2. Which do you prefer to read? E-books or printed books?
- A (Answer): I prefer printed books over e-books.
- R (Reason): The feeling of turning pages is satisfying.
- E (Example): I follow the "45-degree rule" to keep books in good condition.
- C (Consequence): Printed books give me a more enjoyable reading experience.
I would say I’m a huge fan of printed books. No specific reasons though, I’m just addicted to the feeling of turning pages. Oh, there is also this meme among the community of those who love reading, so here me out and you’ll know how big of a printed book lover I am. So, the more one person loves the book, the stricter that person follows the 45 degree rule. That may sound weird, but at least it’s true for my case. No matter which book I am handling, or how long I have had that book, I’m always inclined to hold it with appreciation, like, opening it more than 45 degrees would hurt the book so much.
| a huge fan of | /ə hjuːdʒ fæn əv/ | n phr | một người cực kỳ yêu thích điều gì |
| be addicted to the feeling of | /bi əˈdɪktɪd tuː ðə ˈfiːlɪŋ əv/ | v phr | rất thích, bị cuốn hút bởi cảm giác nào đó |
| the feeling of turning pages | /ðə ˈfiːlɪŋ əv ˈtɜːnɪŋ ˈpeɪdʒɪz/ | n phr | cảm giác lật từng trang sách |
| handle something with appreciation | /ˈhændl ˈsʌmθɪŋ wɪð əˌpriːʃiˈeɪʃn/ | v phr | nâng niu, trân trọng khi sử dụng vật gì |
3. Why are mystery novels so popular nowadays?
- A (Answer): Mystery novels are popular because people love the unknown.
- R (Reason): Curiosity drives them to seek answers and excitement.
- E (Example): Sci-fi and thrillers keep readers engaged with unpredictable plots.
- C (Consequence): This makes mystery novels highly appealing and addictive.
There could be tons of reasons. Hmm I guess modern people are getting increasingly curious about the unknown, to the point where it becomes their nature. Some may be deeply in love with sci-fi fictions and how their plot can stretch already. But some may just, you know, because they have no idea, so finding more would not hurt.
| the unknown | /ði ʌnˈnəʊn/ | n | những điều bí ẩn, chưa được biết đến |
| get increasingly curious about | /ɡet ɪnˈkriːsɪŋli ˈkjʊəriəs əˈbaʊt/ | v phr | ngày càng tò mò về điều gì |
| sci-fi fiction | /ˌsaɪ faɪ ˈfɪkʃn/ | n phr | tiểu thuyết khoa học viễn tưởng |
| stretch a plot | /stretʃ ə plɒt/ | v phr | phát triển, mở rộng cốt truyện |
4. What kind of novels are suitable for a film adaptation?
- A (Answer): Any novel can be adapted if done well.
- R (Reason): Success depends on the director’s skills and audience interest.
- E (Example): Tuesdays with Morrie became a film despite its simple plot.
- C (Consequence): A strong story can attract viewers in any format.
Anyways, I must say. It really depends on the professional competence of the diretor and their team, together with the audience’s contemporary taste. Like, if a story goes viral all of a sudden, then I guess no matter what topic it is or what kind of artistic materials it employs, there will definitely be people who want to see or make its film adaptation version. One example I can recall right now about one book that seems not able to be turned into a movie but it was, is “Tuesday with Morries”, which revolves around meetings between a senior citizen, a professor, in the last days of his life, and a young man, his former students. There are no dramas, they just simply exchange life lessons.
| professional competence | /prəˈfeʃənl ˈkɒmpɪtəns/ | n phr | năng lực chuyên môn |
| contemporary taste | /kənˈtempərəri teɪst/ | n phr | thị hiếu hiện đại |
| go viral | /ɡəʊ ˈvaɪrəl/ | v phr | trở nên nổi tiếng nhanh chóng trên mạng |
| film adaptation | /fɪlm ˌædæpˈteɪʃn/ | n phr | phiên bản chuyển thể thành phim |
Children and reading
1. What are the most popular types of children’s books in your country?
I would say it’s a toss-up between fantasy and reality fiction. Fantasy is a genre filled with stories that are full of impossible things that could not take place in reality, such as magic and talking animals, often set in a different world or universe. This genre actively develops the reader’s imagination through it’s world-building. Reality fiction, ^ on the other hand, is firmly rooted in reality so requires less of an active connection to the imagination. The stories are still fictitious, but they could happen to anyone as the plots deal with events such as falling in love, work, and addiction.

2. What are the benefits of parents^ reading books to their children?
I think the benefits have been well documented, research has shown that reading to a child can be highly beneficial to his development. They will have a chance to learn new vocabulary, practice their pronunciation, improve their listening skills and develop their creativity and imagination, which has a lasting impact on their A intelligence. In addition, it is also a valuable social interaction between parents and children that can be used as a bonding opportunity.

| bonding opportunity | /ˈbɒndɪŋ ˌɒpəˈtjuːnəti/ | n phr | cơ hội gắn kết tình cảm |
3. Should parents always let their children choose the books they read?
I think it is a great motivational tool that could in fact make them better readers. I am an avid reader, but I still remember how much I hated being assigned books at school that I had no interest in. I also understand the concern that a parent might have about their children reading the “wrong thing” or choosing something out of their ability, so I would think that a good middle ground would be for a parent to present choices to children and tailor the experience to their needs and make them feel that their opinion matters in the choice.
| motivational tool | /ˌməʊtɪˈveɪʃənl tuːl/ | n phr | công cụ tạo động lực |

| tailor the experience to someone's needs | /ˈteɪlə ði ɪkˈspɪəriəns tə ˈsʌmwʌnz niːdz/ | v phr | điều chỉnh trải nghiệm phù hợp với nhu cầu của ai đó |
4. What are the advantages of parents reading electronic books (compared to printed books)?
There are a number of things to consider, off the top of my head, I can think of two: cost and accessibility. Since there is no physical copy of the book, e-books will generally be priced lower than their physical counterpart.
If you are a parent looking to stretch your wallet as far as it will go, this seems like a valid point to consider. That is followed by how accessible they are. I could, in this ▼ instant, search for a book on my device, buy it and have it delivered instantly to the palm of my hand without ever having to get up.

Electronic books
1. How popular are electronic books in your country?
I think the popularity of the format has skyrocketed in the past 10 years. It was met at the beginning with a lot of hesitation, particularly from the book industry which saw the advance as a threat, but overall the readers have taken to the change with a positive attitude. At the end of the day, the average reader is concerned mainly with how good a story is and how much it fuels the imagination. E-readers becoming more affordable has also helped push the popularity of the format and made it more accessible to people and there are now almost as many digital books as printed book being published.
| skyrocket | /ˈskaɪˌrɒkɪt/ | v | tăng vọt, tăng nhanh chóng |
| be met with hesitation | /biː met wɪð ˌhezɪˈteɪʃn/ | v phr | được đón nhận với sự do dự, e ngại |
| take to something | /teɪk tuː ˈsʌmθɪŋ/ | phrasal verb | dần yêu thích, chấp nhận một điều gì đó |

| become more affordable | /bɪˈkʌm mɔːr əˈfɔːdəbl/ | v phr | trở nên có giá cả phải chăng hơn |
2. What are the advantages of parents reading electronic books (compared to printed books)?
There are a number of things to consider, off the top of my head I can think of 3: cost, accessibility and space. Since there is no physical copy of the book, e-books will generally be priced lower than their physical counterpart. If you are a parent looking to stretch your wallet as far as it will go, this seems like a valid point to consider. That is followed by how accessible they are. I could in this instant search for a book on my device, buy it and have it delivered instantly to the palm of my hand without ever having to get up. And finally, space. Most modern e-readers are about the size and weight of a paperback book and they can carry more than 1000 books.
| off the top of my head | /ɒf ðə tɒp əv maɪ hed/ | idiom | nghĩ ngay lập tức mà không cần suy nghĩ nhiều |
| physical copy | /ˈfɪzɪkl ˈkɒpi/ | n phr | bản sách giấy, bản in |
| stretch one's wallet | /stretʃ wʌnz ˈwɒlɪt/ | idiom | tiết kiệm tiền, sử dụng tiền hiệu quả |
| instantly | /ˈɪnstəntli/ | adv | ngay lập tức |
| the palm of one's hand | /ðə pɑːm əv wʌnz hænd/ | idiom | trong lòng bàn tay, ngay trong tầm tay |
3. Will electronic books ever completely replace printed books in the future?
I think e-books have created new experiences for readers, but will never entirely replace print. For a reader the interaction with a book is part of the experience, a physical copy holds more than just a story, it’s a record of the reader’s interaction with it. Dog ears, bookmarks, notes, highlighting, stains, they all shape the book just as a child grows, and that is something that is irreplaceable. That means that while the e-book might be a marvel of technology and advancement, it can’t entirely replace what came before it but in many ways have a symbiotic relationship where the success of one fuels the other and that is great for now.
| entirely replace | /ɪnˈtaɪəli rɪˈpleɪs/ | v phr | thay thế hoàn toàn |
| reader's interaction with something | /ˈriːdəz ˌɪntərˈækʃn wɪð ˈsʌmθɪŋ/ | n phr | sự tương tác của người đọc với một vật/hoạt động |
| a record of | /ə ˈrekɔːd əv/ | n phr | dấu tích, sự ghi lại của một điều gì đó |
| a marvel of technology | /ə ˈmɑːvl əv tekˈnɒlədʒi/ | n phr | một thành tựu đáng kinh ngạc của công nghệ |
