Describe a room you have been to in someone else’s house

You should say:

  • whose room it is
  • when you went there
  • how you felt about it
  • and explain why you have been to that person’s room.

Sample

Well, I wanna start off by saying that being invited to someone’s house can be very exciting as each house has something very unique and interesting. And you know what, if I had to talk about a room that stands out most to me, it would definitely be my best friend’s bedroom

So we’ve been friends for ages now, and honestly, we are super close. She often invites me over, especially on weekends or when we have a holiday break, and it’s always a blast spending time with her.

I remember vividly the first time she invited me over was a few years ago, just before her birthday. She wanted some help decorating her room for her party, and that’s when I first got a real look at how beautiful her room was. Since then, it’s become our favorite hangout spot, and we’ve had so many sleepovers there, staying up late talking and watching movies.

The moment I stepped into her room, I was instantly blown away by how cute and gorgeous it looked. She has a bunch of stuffed animals anyone would dream of, from teddy bears to Pokemon and many more. I couldn’t help but feel a little green with envy. She also keeps many photos of herself with family and friends on one side of the wall, and I even spotted myself in one of them, smiling very happily, which made me realize how special I am to her.

Her room has a pastel blue color on the walls, which gives it a calm and cozy vibe. I’m also impressed by how neat/tidy and organized everything is. You know, her books are stacked neatly, her desk is clear, and even her bed is perfectly made, which is completely different from my room. Mine is like a mess, and when I need to find something, it’s like finding a needle in a haystack. Her tidy room makes me realize that if I hadn’t spent so much time there, I probably wouldn’t appreciate the benefits of having an organized space as much as I do now.

a blast /ə blɑːst/ phr một trải nghiệm, khoảng thời gian vui vẻ
hangout spot /ˈhæŋaʊt spɒt/ n nơi hay gặp gỡ nhau

Part 3 Home

1. Do young people or old people prefer to stay at home?

Answer Older people prefer staying home.
Reason They enjoy comfort and quiet.
Example They relax, read, or do gardening.
Consequence Younger people go out more to explore.

I suppose that older people are more inclined to stay at home compared to the younger generation. They enjoy the comfort and tranquility of their home environment, where they can relax, read, or tend to hobbies like gardening. On the other hand, younger people typically prefer going out because they’re more energetic and eager to explore the world. For instance, many teenagers and young adults like hanging out with friends, going to cafes, or attending events. That said, it really depends on individual personality rather than just age. Some young people can be homebodies too, especially if they enjoy things like gaming or watching movies.

be inclined to /biː ɪnˈklaɪnd tuː/ phr có xu hướng làm gì
the comfort and tranquility of /ðə ˈkʌmfət ənd trænˈkwɪləti ɒv/ phr sự thoải mái, yên bình
energetic /ˌenəˈdʒetɪk/ adj đầy năng lượng
that said /ðæt sed/ phr tuy nhiên, dù là nói như vậy
homebodies /ˈhəʊmbɒdiz/ n người thích ở nhà

2. Why do people invite others to their house?

Answer To strengthen relationships.
Reason Home gatherings create warmth and connection.
Example Families invite relatives for dinner or celebrations.
Consequence Builds stronger bonds and hospitality.

Well, there are various reasons why people invite others over. One of them is to strengthen relationships. You know, hosting a gathering at home allows people to connect on a deeper level and it can always create a sense of warmth and belonging, which is often hard to achieve in public spaces. For example, families might invite relatives over for dinner to catch up or celebrate special occasions. Another reason could be to showcase hospitality or reciprocate a previous invitation.

strengthen relationships /ˈstreŋθn rɪˈleɪʃnʃɪps/ phr thắt chặt tình cảm
create a sense of warmth and belonging /kriˈeɪt ə sens ɒv wɔːmθ ənd bɪˈlɒŋɪŋ/ phr tạo ra cảm giác ấm cúng, gần gũi
reciprocate /rɪˈsɪprəkeɪt/ v đáp lại (tình cảm, hành động)

3. Do you go to someone else’s house during the spring festival (Tet’s holiday)? Why?

Answer Yes, it’s a tradition.
Reason It strengthens family and social bonds.
Example Visiting grandparents, exchanging wishes, sharing lucky money.
Consequence Creates a joyful and connected community.

Absolutely. Visiting other people’s homes during Tet is a significant tradition in Vietnamese culture. It’s a time to pay respects to elders, exchange New Year’s wishes, and strengthen family bonds. For instance, I usually visit my grandparents to wish them good health and happiness for the coming year. Beyond that, visiting friends or neighbors during Tet is also a wonderful way to share festive moments, exchange lucky money, and enjoy traditional foods like bánh chưng or pickled vegetables, which can foster a sense of community during the holiday season.

exchange new year’s wishes /ɪksˈtʃeɪndʒ njuː jɪəz ˈwɪʃɪz/ phr gửi nhau lời chúc năm mới
strengthen family bonds /ˈstreŋθn ˈfæməli bɒndz/ phr thắt chặt tình cảm gia đình
