Ngữ pháp SAT: Parallelism

Parallelism - Cấu trúc song hành là các thành phần ngữ pháp giống nhau về hình thức hoặc chức năng, được sử dụng trong cùng một câu. Khi liệt kê các ý, thì sử dụng cấu trúc song hành để liệt kê các ý đó cùng nhau về loại từ, cấu trúc...

Sử dụng cấu trúc song hành sẽ giúp ngữ pháp mượt hơn, cân đối, có nhịp điệu, nội dung rõ ràng dễ hiểu hơn.  Trong bài thi SAT, đây là một trong những mục ngữ pháp cần chú ý, thường xuất hiện trong phần Writing, Verbal. Việc học cấu trúc Parallelism chắc chắn, sử dụng đúng sẽ giúp bạn tránh được các lỗi sai khi làm bài.

Balancing list

Example:  

Wrong: She went swimming, running, and danced all night. 

Correct:  She went swimming, running, and dancing all night.​

Tip:  Khi liệt kê nhiều hoạt động hoặc đặc điểm, các phần tử phải ở cùng một dạng ngữ pháp. Ví dụ, nếu bắt đầu bằng động từ dạng “V-ing”, tất cả các động từ phải ở dạng “V-ing”.​

Balancing Comparisons

Example:  

Wrong: Jefferson actually liked to participate in the science league more than he liked playing basketball. 

Correct (1):  Jefferson actually liked to participate in the science league more than he liked to play basketball.​

Correct (2):  Jefferson actually liked participating in the science league more than he liked playing basketball.​

Tip: 

Khi so sánh, các yếu tố được so sánh phải có cấu trúc giống nhau. ​

Ví dụ: Câu đúng sử dụng cả hai động từ ở dạng "to-infinitive" để đảm bảo tính cân bằng và nhất quán​

Balancing two sides of a standard phrase

Example:  

Wrong: She is not only a great leader but also knows how to communicate. 

Correct:  She is not only a great leader but also a great communicator.​

Tip:  Các liên từ đôi phổ biến: “either/or,” “neither/nor,” “not only/but also,” cần được sử dụng một cách song song. Điều này giúp câu văn rõ ràng và tránh sự thiếu mạch lạc.​
